Chairman of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (HKCIC), Mr. Albert Ho and his entourage visited our university for exchange and guidance.

On January 11, 2024, a group of 26 persons from Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (HKCIC), including Chairman Ho On Shing and Executive Director Cheng Ting Ning, and leaders from Guangdong Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (GDOHURD), such as Zhou Zhuohao, Director of Construction Market Supervision Department, and He Zhijian, Deputy Director of GDOHURD, came to visit SZU to discuss and exchange ideas with our academy. Mr. Wang Yongcheng, Vice President of Shenzhen University, Academician Chen Xiangsheng, President of our college, Mr. Liu Fuyi, Secretary General of Shenzhen Civil Engineering and Architecture Society, Mr. Chen Yunfei, Minister of Student Department of Shenzhen University, Mr. Luo Shaowu, Vice Minister of Student Department, Mr. Zuo Yingzi, Secretary of Party Committee of our college, and so on met with the guests, and both sides had a discussion in 201 conference room of Huidian Building of Guangdong University Campus. Mr. Long Wujian, Executive Dean of the College, presided over the meeting.

Chairman He Ancheng highly recognized the development of SZU and pointed out that the current construction industry is eager for talents, the city of Hong Kong has excellent prospects for future development and is very suitable for the development of young people, and looked forward to in-depth exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the future, to give full play to SZU's dual advantages of university science and technology and talents, and to promote the sharing of human resources between the two sides and jointly promote the development of the field of the construction industry.

Academician Chen Xiangsheng shared and exchanged views on the development history, team profile, schooling characteristics and achievements and contributions, current development status, and future planning of SZU and the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, hoping that this exchange will be an opportunity to strengthen the linkage and scientific research, to promote the exchanges and cooperation between SZU and the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (HKCIC), to open up the channel of talent cultivation and output, and to enhance the ability of university-enterprise synergy in research and development.

Secretary Zuo Yingzi introduced the situation of graduates of the College going to Hong Kong for employment and further studies in recent years, and analyzed the worries and concerns of students going to Hong Kong from the aspects of personal planning and cost of living, hoping that in the future, we can enrich the practice and activities to promote the current students to strengthen the understanding of the industry and to broaden the international vision of the students.

Mr. Chen Yunfei, Minister of Shenzhen University, said that the trend of exporting students to Hong Kong for employment has been increasing year by year, and he hoped that in the future the publicity and promotion could be strengthened to deepen students' understanding of life in Hong Kong, and to provide a platform for building bridges to promote students' employment and study in Hong Kong.

Liu Fuyi, Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Civil Engineering and Architectural Society for a brief introduction, and said that the Society is characterized by a wealth of experts and talents, Shenzhen has a geographical advantage, in the context of the dual-zone construction, the growing integration of the Greater Bay Area city clusters, looking forward to working together to increase the opportunities for exchanges and cooperation and to achieve complementarity of advantages.

Vice President Wang Yongcheng expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to He Ancheng and his delegation. He said that SZU has developed rapidly since its establishment, and is a witness to the development of Shenzhen, the forefront city of China's reform and opening up, as well as a deep participant in the construction of this city, which has developed into a comprehensive university covering a wide range of academic disciplines, and has more than 10,000 alumni who have gone to Hong Kong for employment to serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In the future, it is hoped that the dual advantages of science and technology and talents of SZU colleges and universities can be utilized to enhance the ability of university-enterprise collaborative research and development, strengthen cooperation and exchanges, and promote the cooperation between industries, universities and research institutes, so as to burst out with brand-new advantages and deepen the cooperation between the two sides in terms of talents.

During the symposium, the two sides exchanged and discussed topics such as technological research and development, talent cultivation, innovative industry-university-research cooperation and sending graduates to the construction industry in Hong Kong. After the symposium, both sides exchanged gifts and took group photos.

The main functions of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (HKCIC) are to forge consensus with the industry on long-term strategic issues, to reflect the needs and aspirations of the industry to the Government, and to provide a channel of communication for the Government to obtain views on all matters relating to the construction industry. To promote industry-wide improvements, the CIC is empowered to formulate codes of conduct, administer registration and grading schemes, oversee cutting-edge research and manpower development, promote the adoption of construction standards, disseminate good practices and develop performance indicators. This year, dozens of undergraduate and postgraduate graduates of our College will be granted Hong Kong employment status and formally enter the workforce in Hong Kong. In accordance with the unified deployment of the university, the College will specifically target the demand for construction personnel in Hong Kong and Macau, and train undergraduate, master and doctoral students according to internationalization needs. We will make the contribution of the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering of Shenzhen University to the construction of Hong Kong, Macau and other Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
