Sino-Australia Joint Research Center in BIM and Smart Construction (Building Internet and BIM Research Center, Shenzhen University) is a joint, high-level, international research platform that is organized by Shenzhen University, National Building Information Model Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance (China BIM Union) and Swinburne University of Technology from Australia. The center is committed to achieving talent training, scientific research outcome applications, and the integration of teaching and research through a wide range of international exchanges, high-level scientific research as well as engineering practice. The core research team of the center consists of well-known scholars around the world, core members of young and middle-aged teaching and research, full-time researchers, post-doctoral, doctoral and master students. It is equipped with advanced technologies and equipment such as building industrialization, building IoT, geographic space-time information collection, virtual simulation, Beidou positioning, UAVs, 3D printing and 3D laser scanners. The main research directions include smart city construction and management, BIM-based smart construction, sustainable construction and management, and smart transportation and logistics.

As the core R&D platform and P-BIM software certification center of China BIM Union, the center is committed to strengthening the core power of BIM industry development, promoting and influencing the standardization and large-scale development of China's BIM industry, and creating new technologies for the development of China's BIM industry. Besides, the center is also an important window to show the progress of China's BIM industry around the world.

As an important platform for international talent training and exchange, the center and the Swinburne University of Science and Technology jointly recruited and trained PhD students, launched international cooperation, and jointly applied for research projects such as the Australian National Research Fund (ARC Linkage Project) international cooperation projects, Hong Kong SPPR programs and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The Center collaborates with universities such as Missouri University of Science and Technology, University of Tennessee, Queen's University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Adelaide, Hong Kong University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in research exploration. In addition, the center has also conducted extensive and in-depth technical cooperation with China Railway South, China Construction Group, Swell Technology Co., Ltd., Aibo Technology Co., Ltd., and Air Construction Engineering Cost Consultancy Co., Ltd. in BIM+GIS integration application, IoT-based PPVC for building information application, accurate GIS-based prediction and management of construction waste, and data-driven building energy conservation. A large number of high-level academic articles have been published, and quite a few national invention patents have been authorized.
